2010 Census
The community had 88.2% White people, 71.1% Non-Hispanic White people, 2.6% African Americans, 0.4% Native Americans, 2.5% Asian people, 0.0% Pacific Islanders, 4.7% people of other races, and 1.7% people of two or more races as of the 2010 census[14]. 13.7% of people identified as Hispanic or Latino, regardless of race.
2000 Census
The hamlet has 2,051 families, 3,216 homes, and 8,399 residents according to the 2000 census. There were 7,432.2 people per square mile (2,869.6/km2) in the population. At an average density of 2,910.4 per square mile (1,123.7/km2), there were 3,289 housing units. In the village, the distribution of racial groups was as follows: 87.03% White, 1.61% African American, 0.12% Native American, 3.70% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 5.06% from other races, and 2.43% from two or more races. Latinos or Hispanics of any race made up 12.57%.
Of the 3,216 households, 28.3% included children under the age of 18, married couples made up 50.2% of the households, single women made up 9.5%, and non-families made up 36.2%. One person made up 29.8% of households, while one person 65 years of age or older made up 11.5%. 3.19 was the average family size and 2.55, respectively, was the average household size.
21.2% of the population was under 18, 7.3% was between 18 and 24, 35.2% was between 25 and 44, 21.6% was between 45 and 64, and 14.7% was 65 years of age or older. It was 38 years old on average. There were 95.2 men for every 100 females. There were 92.5 males for every 100 girls over the age of 18.
The typical family income was $68,235, while the median household income was $58,411. The median income for men was $46,104 while it was $36,021 for women. The village’s per capita income was $27,492. 5.6% of people and 3.0% of households, comprising 3.5% of those under 18 and 13.0% of those 65 and older, lived in poverty.
Ralph Ekstrand is the mayor of Farmingdale as of July 2023; William Barrett is the deputy mayor; and Craig Rosasco, Walter Priestley, and Cheryl Parisi are the village trustees.
The Long Island Rail Road’s Farmingdale station, NICE routes n70 and n71, Republic Airport, a significant general aviation reliever east of New York City, and other facilities serve Farmingdale. Major routes include the Southern State Parkway and Bethpage State Parkway, as well as New York State Routes 24 (Conklin Street), 27 (Sunrise Highway), 109 (Fulton Street), and 110 (Broad Hollow Road). A transit-oriented development based on the LIRR station is located in the village. Farmingdale to Montauk will be connected by a planned Long Island greenway.
