Previously referred to as Madnan’s Neck, this region shared its name with the entire Great Neck Peninsula.
Among the first European families to settle in the Great Neck region was the Allen family. They possessed substantial tracts of land, including farms, that are now part of Great Neck Gardens.
The CDP is all land, with a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2), according to the US Census Bureau.
The CDP was home to 1,089 individuals, 376 households, and 327 families as of the 2000 census. There were 6,467.8 people per square mile (2,497.2/km2) at that population density. At an average density of 2,262.8 per square mile (873.7/km2), there were 381 dwelling units. The CDP’s racial composition was 1.65% from two or more races, 0.83% from African American, 7.44% Asian, and 89.35% White. Latinos or Hispanics of any race made up 2.30 percent of the population.
Of the 376 homes, 41.2% included children under the age of 18, 79.5% were made up of married couples, 6.6% included a female householder living alone, and 13.0% were not families. Individuals made up 12.2% of all households, and 8.8% of them included a single person 65 years of age or older. 3.11 was the average family size while 2.90 was the average size of a household.
The population of the CDP was dispersed, with 16.3% of people 65 years of age or older, 3.8% of people between the ages of 18 and 24, 21.2% of people between the ages of 25 and 44, and 28.3% of people under the age of 18. It was 42 years old on average. There were 103.2 men for every 100 females. There were 95.3 males for every 100 girls over the age of 18.
In the CDP, the median income for a family was $142,915 and the typical income for a household was $124,175. The median income for men was $94,401 while it was $56,071 for women. In the CDP, the per capita income was $49,317. There were no families or members of the populace living in poverty.
