Manhasset Hills is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, located on Long Island in the Town of North Hempstead. 3,649 people were living there as of the 2020 census. Herricks, North Hills, North New Hyde Park, and Lake Success are some of the nearby localities.
A large portion of Manhasset Hills’ property had been exploited by developers by the late 1950s. Built on a 24-acre property by Barney and Martin Spiegel, Cherrywood Homes was one of the last significant complexes to be constructed. One of the largest remaining undeveloped land tracts in Manhasset Hills was used for the construction of 88 split-level residences planned by architect A.H. Salkowitz.
About a thousand Manhasset Hills homeowners tried to stop the State of New York from establishing a group home for individuals with mental impairments in their area throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Many tried to amend a statute to stop the group home from being built because they were worried that it would lower the value of their properties. The group home was set up in neighboring New Hyde Park after the residents successfully blocked its establishment in their neighborhood.
The hamlet’s northern boundary used to be the Long Island Motor Parkway.
The CDP is all land, with a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), according to the US Census Bureau.
Since Manhasset Hills is a bedroom suburb of the City of New York, many of its citizens go to and from New York on a daily basis for employment.
The CDP was home to 3,661 individuals, 1,224 households, and 1,068 families as of the 2000 census.[16] There were 6,175.1 people per square mile (2,384.2/km2) at that population density. At an average density of 2,083.1 per square mile (804.3/km2), there were 1,235 dwelling units. 70.39% of the CDP’s population was White, 0.36% African American, 0.03% Native American, 27.04% Asian, 0.66% other ethnic groups, and 1.53% multiracial. Latinos or Hispanics of any race made up 3.31% of the total population.
Of the 1,224 homes, 37.2% included children under the age of 18, 81.2% consisted of married couples living together, 4.2% included a female householder living alone, and 12.7% did not belong to a family. Individuals made up 10.5% of all households, and 7.4% of them had a single person 65 years of age or older. The average size of a family was 3.22 while the average size of a household was 2.99.
With 24.2% of the population under the age of 18, 6.0% between the ages of 18 and 24, 20.3% between 25 and 44, 29.0% between 45 and 64, and 20.4% over the age of 65, the population of the CDP was dispersed. It was 45 years old on average. There were 92.0 men for every 100 females. There were 89.1 males for every 100 girls over the age of 18.
In the CDP, the median income for a family was $109,613 and the median income for a household was $103,540. The median salary for men was $78,223 while it was $48,542 for women. In the CDP, the per capita income was $45,009. 4.5% of people under the age of 18 and 3.9% of people 65 and above were among the 2.3% of families and 2.8% of the population living in poverty.

School districts
Though the westernmost part of the hamlet is located within the confines of the Great Neck Union Free School District, Manhasset Hills is predominantly located within the boundaries of the Herricks Union Free School District, and is therefore served by it. As a result, depending on where they live in the hamlet, Manhasset Hills residents who attend public schools attend classes in one of these two districts.
Library districts
Manhasset Hills is served by the Great Neck Library District and the Shelter Rock Library District since it is situated inside their borders. The boundaries of the school district and these two hamlet districts are approximately the same.
Transportation
Road
The hamlet’s northeastern corner is crossed by a short section of the Northern State Parkway; Manhasset Hills was once home to the historic Long Island Motor Parkway. The hamlet’s southwest corner borders Union Turnpike, while its southwest tip is located at Hillside Avenue.
A number of other significant roads pass through Manhasset Hills, including Shelter Rock Road, Old Courthouse Road, Denton Avenue, Marcus Avenue, and New Hyde Park Road.
Rail
Manhasset Hills is not traversed by any rail lines. East Williston on the Oyster Bay Branch and New Hyde Park on the Main Line are the closest Long Island Rail Road stations to the hamlet.
Bus
At the hamlet’s western boundary, New Hyde Park Road is where the n25 and n26 run. Nassau Inter-County Express runs these two bus routes (NICE).

The Manhasset–Lakeville Water District and the Garden City Park Water District both contain Manhasset Hills. The boundaries of the school district and these two hamlet districts are approximately the same.
