East Islip is a CDP and hamlet located in Suffolk County, New York, USA’s Town of Islip. 14,475 people were living in the CDP as of the 2010 census.

Rich families used to live in enclaves in East Islip and other hamlets along the south shore of Long Island. The estates of the Hollins, Gulden, and Knapp were among its former holdings. Once owned by the Thorne family, who were originally from Great Neck during the Dutch colonial era, Brookwood Hall was an original estate mansion. It is currently used as a municipal building for the Town of Islip. The Sullivan estate was converted into the exclusive Hewlett School. A boarding school that shut down soon after the year 2000. The existing grounds of St. Mary’s of East Islip, which house the church and various parish structures along with a private elementary and middle school, were formed from some estate and early farmlands that were granted to the Roman Catholic church. East Islip Soccer is currently based on the grounds of the former Westbrook farm, which was located close to the Bayard Cutting Arboretum and on the border between East Islip and Oakdale. These fields were previously used by the Little League of the Islips.
These days, East Islip consists of a few estates and considerably smaller, wealthy communities. A large number of these more recent settlements were constructed on property that was formerly a part of estates that were liquidated, most famously the Percy G. Williams estate. One of the hamlet’s most prestigious areas is The Moorings, an expensive private enclave guard-gated along the coastline. The Beecher Estates, Country Village, and Deer Run are some of the hamlet’s other neighborhoods.

The CDP has 4.1 square miles (10.5 km2) in total, of which 3.9 square miles (10.2 km2) are land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km2), or 2.68%, are water, according to the United States Census Bureau.
East Islip shares borders with four additional hamlets: Great River lies to the east, North Great River lies to the northeast, Islip is to the west, and Islip Terrace is to the north. To the south is the Great South Bay. In close proximity to the town-run public beach on the bay is the experimental shellfish hatchery run by the Town of Islip.

The CDP was home to 3,731 families and 4,578 homes as of the 2000 census[6]. There were 3,428.5 people per square mile (1,323.8/km2) in the population. At an average density of 1,135.1 per square mile (438.3/km2), there were 4,661 dwelling units. 0.96% of the CDP’s population was from other races, 0.78% was from two or more races, 0.57% was African American, 0.06% was Native American, 1.41% was Asian, and 0.02% was Pacific Islander. The remaining racial composition was 96.20% White.
Of the 4,578 homes, 42.9% included children under the age of 18, 68.0% consisted of married couples living together, 10.0% included a female householder living alone, and 18.5% did not belong to a family. Individuals made up 15.2% of all households, and 7.3% of them had a single person 65 years of age or older. The mean dimensions of households and families were 3.03 and 3.38, respectively.
28.5% of the CDP’s population was under the age of 18, 6.3% was between the ages of 18 and 24, 32.3% was between the ages of 25 and 44, 21.1% was between the ages of 45 and 64, and 11.8% was above the age of 65. Thirty-seven was the median age. There were 95.2 men for every 100 females. There were 90.1 men for every 100 girls over the age of 18.
In the CDP, the median income for a family was $77,593 and the median income for a household was $71,106. The median income for men was $51,554, while it was $36,959 for women. In the CDP, the per capita income was $27,356. 3.7% of people, including 4.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those 65 and over, and 2.8% of families were living in poverty.

There are two public marinas and one private marina in East Islip. In Great River, two more marinas are run on the property of the Timber Point Country Club, which is home to the sole golf course in East Islip. East Islip maintains its heritage of sporting hunting and fishing, with its wetlands still providing a haven for duck and other waterfowl hunters, and its marinas hosting a number of yearly fishing competitions.
