Residents formed the Bay Park Civic & Property Owners’ Association in 1926, and on June 24, 1927, the group held its inaugural meeting.
The hamlet’s Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant, which is run by the County of Nassau as a component of the Nassau County Sewage District, malfunctioned during and after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. It would thereafter undergo maintenance and improvements, most notably in the early 2020s. The sewage plant’s improvements will help lower the amount of nitrogen in the seas around that area of the South Shore of Long Island.
The CDP is 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2) in total, of which 0.1 square miles (0.3 km2), or 21.82%, is water and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2) is land, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The CDP was home to 2,300 people, 874 households, and 636 families as of the 2000 census. There were 5,305.4 people living there per square mile (2,048.4/km2). At an average density of 2,057.6 per square mile (794.4/km2), there were 892 dwelling units. 0.96% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.35% African American, 0.96% White, 0.04% Native American, 0.87% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races made up the CDP’s racial composition. Latino or Hispanic, regardless of race, made up 4.22% of the population.
Of the 874 homes, 31.7% included children under the age of 18, 58.4% consisted of married couples living together, 10.0% included a female householder living alone, and 27.2% did not belong to a family. 9.0% of all households had an individual 65 years of age or older living alone, making up 21.1% of all households. 3.10 was the average family size while 2.63 was the average size of a household.
Of the 874 dwellings, 31.7% had children under the age of eighteen, 58.4% were occupied by married couples, 10.0% had a single female homeowner, and 27.2% were unrelated to one another. A person 65 years of age or older lived alone in 9.0% of all households, accounting for 21.1% of all households. The average size of a home was 2.63, while the average size of a family was 3.10.
In the CDP, the median income for a family was $64,950, while the median income for a household was $64,063. The median income for men was $48,125, while it was $36,755 for women. In the CDP, the per capita income was $25,888. 4.9% of people under the age of 18 and 2.8% of people 65 and older were among the 2.2% of families and 2.4% of the population living in poverty.


While the named county park is located within the boundaries of the Oceanside Union Free School District, Bay Park is predominantly located within the confines of the East Rockaway Union Free School District; every residence in the hamlet is located within the East Rockaway UFSD. For this reason, East Rockaway’s schools serve all of the hamlet’s youngsters who attend public schools.
Library districts
The East Rockaway Library District’s boundaries mostly encompass Bay Park, while the Oceanside Library District’s boundaries contain the county park by the same name. The boundaries between the two districts within the hamlet line up with those for the school districts.
