Bridge Plaza is located at the northeastern corner of Brooklyn’s downtown district. Its boundaries are the Flatbush Avenue Extension and Manhattan Bridge to the west, Tillary Street to the south, and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) to the north and east.
The neighborhood was linked to Vinegar Hill until the 1950s, when the construction of the BQE completely cut it off from the surrounding districts. After this modification, the “area shifted more towards auto shops, garages and warehouses, and its zoning only allowed industrial uses.” The Brooklyn real estate blog Brownstoner defines the neighborhood as “a time warp, a Brigadoon-like enclave of early to mid-19th century buildings surrounded by the boom of the 21st century.”
One of Bridge Plaza’s most renowned homes is 167 Concord Street, which the Brooklyn Eagle has termed the “most photogenic house in Downtown Brooklyn”. The modest house has a candy apple red Citicar parked in the front yard. The house was built in 1762 and is surrounded by a stone wall dating from circa 1820.
