Cadman Plaza is a park situated on the boundary between the Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York City. It derives its name from Reverend Doctor Samuel Parkes Cadman (1864–1936), a celebrated minister in the Brooklyn Congregational Church. The park was established on land reclaimed through condemnation in 1935 and designated as a park in 1939. It is flanked by Cadman Plaza West and Cadman Plaza East on its west and east sides, respectively.
The plaza is enclosed by Cadman Plaza East (formerly Washington Street) and Cadman Plaza West (formerly Ferry Road or Fulton Road),[2] with the Brooklyn Bridge to the north and Tillary Street to the south. Adjacent to the park’s eastern side is the Theodore Roosevelt United States Courthouse. Just south of Cadman Plaza, between Tillary and Johnson Streets, lies the compact Korean War Veterans Plaza. Continuing southward from Johnson Street, one encounters the Kings County Supreme Court Building and Columbus Park, which showcases a statue of Christopher Columbus. This area was previously utilized as a station for trolley cars. Together with Walt Whitman Park, these parks collectively form a promenade stretching from Brooklyn Borough Hall to the Brooklyn Bridge. A proposal for a “Brooklyn Strand” was put forth in 2015 to connect these parks seamlessly.
