East Farmingdale is a census-designated place (CDP) and hamlet in Suffolk County, New York, situated on the South Shore of Long Island. The town is called Babylon. In 2020, there were 6,617 people living there.
It was once suggested that all or portion of East Farmingdale be incorporated into the never-completed Half Hollow Hills Incorporated Village.


The villages of South Farmingdale and Farmingdale to the west, Melville to the north, Old Bethpage to the northwest, Wyandanch and West Babylon to the east, North Lindenhurst to the southeast, and North Amityville to the south bounded East Farmingdale.

Of the 2,114 dwelling units, owner-occupied occupied made up 68.7%. 31.3% of occupied housing units were occupied by renters, while 5.3% of vacant housing units were occupied.
The CDP’s racial composition was as follows: 71.6% were White, 12.5% were African American, 0.2% were Native Americans, 5.1% were Asian, 0.1% were Pacific Islanders, 7.4% were other racial, and 3.1% were dual-race. Latino or Hispanic, regardless of race, made up 20.9% of the population. In the CDP, non-Hispanic Whites made up 59.8%.
There were 2,002 households, of which 36.4% included children under the age of 18, married couples headed 52.6% of the households, single women headed 12.5% of the households, and non-families made up 29.6%. Individuals made up 24.7% of all households, with 13.1% consisting of someone 65 years of age or older living alone. Three was the typical size of a household, and three was the average size of a family.
The population of the CDP was distributed, with 11.7% being 65 years of age or more, 15.3% being between the ages of 18 and 24, 25.6% being between the ages of 25 and 44, and 22.1% being under the age of 18. 35.6 years old was the median age.
An estimated 86.4% of people in the population between 2007 and 2011 had resided in the same home for a year or longer. Foreign-born individuals made up 20.8% of the population, and 27.5% of those who were at least five years old spoke a language other than English at home.
Between 2007 and 2011, 26.9% of people who were at least 25 years old had a bachelor’s degree or above, while 85.0% of residents who were at least 25 years old had completed high school. For employees 16 years of age and older, the average commute time to work was 28.2 minutes.
The estimated median annual income of a household in the CDP was $86,000 between 2007 and 2011. In the CDP, the per capita income was $30,723. The proportion of people living in poverty was 3.3%. Multi-unit buildings accounted for 26.4% of the community’s housing units, with owner-occupied housing units having a median value of $423,200.

The Half Hollow Hills Central School District encompasses all of East Farmingdale that is located north of Conklin Street. The majority of elementary school pupils attend Signal Hill Elementary School or Paumanok Elementary School. Half Hollow Hills High School East and West Hollow Middle School are the destinations for all secondary school students.
The Farmingdale Union Free School District serves the majority of East Farmingdale’s southernmost neighborhoods, which are found south of Conklin Street. The Copiague Union Free School District also includes a tiny portion of East Farmingdale, however this area is devoid of residential buildings.
The lone public grade school in East Farmingdale is Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School, which is attended by all elementary children in the Farmingdale Union Free School District.
Advanced learning
Farmingdale State College is located in East Farmingdale. The college is situated in the CDP’s northwest region.
One of Long Island’s busiest business districts is New York State Route 110, or Broad Hollow Road, and East Farmingdale is home to numerous Long Island businesses. The CDP’s center is home to Republic Airport, which is situated next to Saint Charles Cemetery to the east. About one-third of the CDP’s total land area is comprised of these two sections. One of the most well-known amusement parks on Long Island, Adventureland, is situated in East Farmingdale directly across from Farmingdale State College.
