A section of Hofstra University’s north campus and Nassau Community College are located in the hamlet, which is primarily a business and industrial neighborhood.

East Garden City was bounded to the north by Carle Place and the Village of Westbury in the Town of North Hempstead (the Hempstead/North Hempstead town line); to the east by East Meadow; to the south by Uniondale and the Village of Hempstead; and to the west by the Garden City and Hempstead Villages. This list was in clockwise order starting from the city’s northern boundary.
The mailing addresses of the places in East Garden City are either “Garden City, NY 11530”, “Westbury, NY 11590”, “Uniondale, NY 11553”, or “Hempstead, NY 11550”. East Garden City was one of many communities on Long Island where the hamlet name was not included in the address.
In the then-CDP, there were 6,208 residents as of the 2010 census. 1,341 dwelling units were present.
