Hollis Hills Queens

Richland Avenue and Kingsbury Avenue to the north, Springfield Boulevard to the east, Grand Central Parkway to the south, and Hollis Hills Terrace to the west define the perimeter of this upscale subdivision. Because of a glacier that is retreating from the last Ice Age, it is slightly above sea level. On the north side of Grand Central Parkway, at Bell Boulevard, is a small body of water known as Potamogeton Pond.

The most common architectural styles in Hollis Hills are ranch, Tudor, and colonial. Because some homes in the neighborhood may garner prices of $1,500,000 or more, the upper middle class is the primary demographic drawn to these properties. Like Douglaston, this community is a quasi-suburb with detached houses on spacious lots surrounded by trees. Surrey Estates is a part of Hollis Hills, bounded by Union Turnpike, Springfield Boulevard, and Hartland Avenue. It is a smaller triangle of residences with noteworthy architectural features encircled by enormous, old trees.

The Chapel of the Redeemer Lutheran, the Hollis Hills Jewish Center (established in 1948), the American Martyrs Catholic Church, the John Hamburg Community Center, the Windsor Park Branch of the Queens Public Library, Kingsbury Elementary School (P.S. 188), the Hollis Hills Civic Association, and the Surrey Estates Homeowners Association are some of the notable establishments in Hollis Hills.
