North Patchogue, pronounced PATCH-awg, is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) nestled within the Town of Brookhaven on Long Island, Suffolk County, New York, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population of this CDP was recorded at 7,246 residents.
North Patchogue spans a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.3 km2), as per the United States Census Bureau. This includes 2.0 square miles (5.1 km2) of land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 2.57%, of water.
Situated near the interchange of NY-27 (Sunrise Highway) and NY-112 (Medford Avenue), North Patchogue boasts convenient access to major roadways.
Moreover, the hamlet is graced with two waterways that feed into the Patchogue Lake and River, one of which is Canaan Lake.
In the 2000 census, North Patchogue had a population of 7,825 individuals residing in 2,694 households, with 1,988 families present. The population density was 3,669.7 inhabitants per square mile (1,416.9/km2). Housing units totaled 2,781, with an average density of 1,304.2 per square mile (503.6/km2).
The racial composition of North Patchogue was 93.30% White, 1.44% African American, 0.09% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 2.38% from other races, and 1.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino individuals of any race comprised 8.77% of the population.
Households were diverse, with 35.8% having children under the age of 18, 58.1% being married couples living together, 11.2% headed by a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% being non-families. The average household size was 2.87, and the average family size was 3.32.
Age distribution was spread, with 26.5% under the age of 18, 7.4% aged 18 to 24, 34.1% aged 25 to 44, 23.4% aged 45 to 64, and 8.7% aged 65 or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 95.0 males.
