Between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, the Uniondale CDP acquired territory as a result of the Uniondale CDP absorbing the old CDP of East Garden City.

Swiss International Air Lines once had its headquarters in the United States at 776 RexCorp Plaza, located in Uniondale’s EAB Plaza. Around 2002, the airline relocated its headquarters from 41 Pinelawn Road in Melville, Suffolk County.

The CDP had 23,011 residents at the time of the 2000 census, divided into 6,026 households and 4,826 families. There were 8,676.5 people living there per square mile (3,350.0/km2). At an average density of 2,338.1 per square mile (902.7/km2), there were 6,201 dwelling units. The CDP’s racial composition was as follows: 55.53% Black, 2.10% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.35% Native American, 9.95% from other races, and 5.01% from two or more races. Latinos and Hispanics of all races made up 22.86% of the population.
Of the 6,026 households, 39.3% included children under the age of 18, 52.9% included married couples, 20.9% included a female householder living alone, and 19.9% did not belong to a family. One person made up 16.0% of all households, while one person 65 years of age or more made up 8.5%. The average family size was 3.95, while the average size of a home was 3.66.
26.5% of the population was under 18, 9.7% was between 18 and 24, 29.3% was between 25 and 44, 21.9% was between 45 and 64, and 12.6% was 65 years of age or more. Thirty-five was the median age. There were 90.0 men for every 100 females. There were 85.5 males for every 100 girls over the age of 18.
