The first European settlers arrived when Captain John Seaman, an Englishman originally from Seaford in East Sussex, arrived. Following his acquisition of the land patent, Seaman directed the founding of Jerusalem South, the town that would eventually acquire Seaford’s original European name. Another common name for it was Seaman’s Neck.
In the CDP as of the 2000 census, there were 15,791 residents, 5,257 homes, and 4,200 families. There were 6,072.9 people living there per square mile (2,344.8/km2). At an average density of 2,060.6 per square mile (795.6/km2), there were 5,358 housing units. The CDP was composed of 99.8% white people, 0.15% African Americans, 0.68% Native Americans, 0.68% Asians, 0.22% Pacific Islanders, 5.44% other racial groups, and 0.59% people of two or more ethnic backgrounds. The percentage of Hispanic or Latino individuals, regardless of race, was 1.71%.
There were 5,257 homes, of which 37.2% included children under the age of 18, 68.4% consisted of married couples, 8.6% included a female householder living alone, and 20.1% did not belong to a family. Individuals made up 16.3% of all households, and 8.3% of those included a single person 65 years of age or older living alone. 3.38 was the average family size while 3.00 was the average household size.
The public school system that includes Seaford Harbor Elementary School (K–5), Seaford Manor Elementary School (K–5), Seaford Middle School (6–8), and Seaford High School (grades 9–12) is known as the Seaford Union Free School District. Two private schools, Maria Regina School and Saint William the Abbot Catholic School (Nursery–8), both run by Principal Elizabeth Bricker, are located in the town of Seaford.
The Board of Education and the Central Administration of the Seaford Free Union School District are in charge of overseeing and making decisions for the entire district. President Bruce A. Kahn and Vice President Brian W. Fagan are in charge of the board.
Art, business, computer sciences, English, health, French, Spanish, American Sign Language, mathematics, music and choral studies, science, social studies, and physical education & health are among the disciplines taught at Seaford High School. The majority of these subjects offer AP courses.
In Seaford, there were 3,296 pupils enrolled in all public schools as of 2010, while 984 children were enrolled in private schools.
The school employs 62 full-time teachers and has 786 pupils enrolled overall. Scott Bersin is the Seaford High School’s current principal. Anthony Alison and Jessica Sventeroitis are the vice principals.
